A line from one of my favorite Christian songs titled, Even Louder by Steven Malcolm – “the bigger depression hits the louder my praise gets.” This and other things I’ve read recently caused me to think about the purpose of stress. I view health and fitness as a mix of our actions in three areas that we can actually control: nutrition, exercise, and stress. We may not be able to control the stressors that arise in our lives, but we can certainly affect how we react to those things. It’s important to understand that stress exists for a purpose. The line from the song I referenced is an example of thankfulness for the trials and stresses we endure. It’s a great example of how our outlook on things can affect our outcomes. Stressors exist for a reason, but it’s how we react to those things that determine our way forward…and whether that way forward is positive or negative.
