Last Sunday, the pastor at our church preached from the New Testament, but he referenced scripture from the Old Testament as well. This isn’t uncommon, but it was a reminder to me of the Good News, meaning God’s word of freedom from our sins, and closing the gap between us as a broken people and God as the Savior. What this means in the context of letting go of the past is that God knows that we are sinners, that we are broken, that there is nothing that we can do to earn his love, forgiveness, and eternal salvation. The past doesn’t define you. You are defined by Him, and how you live is a manifestation of that. We no longer have to live in the past or be held down by past mistakes or actions. Let go, let God, and move forward.
