“No part of the body is an island unto itself. Try to pick up a pen off the floor using just your hand. It’s impossible. Even simple movements simultaneously engage the legs, core, shoulders, arms, and neck. The body is an interconnected chain of muscles. Every movement we perform is a whole-body movement. That’s why TRX Training uses tools and movements that challenge the entire body in every plane of motion.” -TRX Training Philosophy
What is Suspension Training?
Suspension training involves exercises that use your bodyweight as resistance, leveraging gravity to modify the difficulty of the exercises, and changing your body position to target various muscle groups. The tool I use for all suspension training is the TRX Suspension Trainer.
What are the benefits of the TRX Suspension Trainer?
- Every exercise done with the TRX forces you to stabilize your core. Stabilization exercises are the best way to train the core because they mimic how the core is used in everyday life.
- The TRX provides an endless number of exercise possibilities. It’s unique design allows you to do ground-based exercises, upright exercises, and more, allowing you to target any muscle group of the body you choose.
- From beginners to advanced athletes, the TRX allows you to work at any difficulty level you like by simply changing the angle of your body or varying your stance.
- It’s easy to use. With only one attachment point, it can be hung on a door, bar, tree limb, tank turret…you name it!
- Portability…weighing less than 2.5 pounds, and folding to less than 8 inches in width, you can easily pack the TRX for use at home or while traveling.
- The TRX allows you to isolate muscles on either side of your body to correct imbalances. You are no longer limited to exercises where one side of your body has to compensate for a weaker side.
From Trainer T…
If you’re familiar with TD Fitness, you know that I don’t randomly advertise or promote products like other sites do. I believe in keeping things clean, giving you the information you need and want, without the distraction of promotions and unrelated information.
Having said that, part of my role as a trainer and educator is to pass on things that I believe can be beneficial to you. This page describes a tool that I use regularly in my own training routines, those for my family, and those whom I train. There are many tools that we can use in our never-ending quest for health and fitness, but in my opinion, few rival the TRX.
I was first exposed to the TRX by some of my co-workers – those in the military special operations community. I didn’t think much of it, and never used it, thinking it was just another fitness fad. That was in 2005.
In 2009 I attended a personal trainer conference where we had the opportunity to try a 10 minute TRX workout. I needed no more than those 10 minutes to be convinced. That night, I went back to the hotel and ordered a TRX Suspension Trainer online.
Since being introduced to the TRX, I’ve used it regularly. I enjoy the variety of exercises it provides, the options for rehabilitative exercises by varying difficulty levels, and even the applications for different population groups such as those who are pregnant. Since beginning with the TRX, I’ve learned even more about the many uses for the device and its truly remarkable applications to athletes and fitness enthusiasts of varying stages.
I believe in suspension training with the TRX and I highly recommend it.
